BONfire

Hoog Catharijne (1st floor entrance Vredenburgplein) – reachable until approx. 21.30 hrs

Bonfire is a three-meter-high interactive light sculpture of an abstract campfire. We see sitting around a campfire with friends or strangers as a universal experience that brings people together. Almost everyone has positive memories of sitting around the fire, gazing at the flames and feeling a sense of belonging. It is a shared experience that transcends cultures and that we have experienced since prehistoric times. Bonfire symbolizes this feeling with its warm glow, which gets brighter and brighter as more people gather around the light sculpture.

In Hoog Catharijne, you don’t normally gather like this and usually just walk through and past each other. Bonfire is a place of recognition and you can experience this bonfire together. Whether you sit there with acquaintances or strangers, the more people sit there the cozier the fire becomes, the more light it gives.

Bonfire can be visited until approximately 9.30 pm, after which this part of Hoog Catharijne closes for the rest of the evening.

“Homecoming means coming back to the familiar, being able to sit down, relax and warm up.”

FRONT404 is a Dutch duo of artists consisting of Thomas voor ‘t Hekke and Bas van Oerle. We mostly make interactive installations, using easily accessible and direct interaction as a means to reach people in innovative, meaningful and playful ways. We try to reach people in unexpected and unusual ways, in the conviction that memorable and fun experiences are the best way to get them to look at the world in a new light. Much of FRONT404’s work is dedicated to our quest to make the world a more playful place.
