The Neon artwork ‘REBUS’ on the facade of the Beatrix building was created by Korrie Besems in 1991, commissioned by the Central Museum for the light art exhibition Nachtregels.

The artwork consists of neon letters and images. Together they form a rebus. This rebus of neon pipes, about 30 meters long, was iconic for years in the Lange nieuwstraat and has left many a passer-by scratching their brains. The rebus is based on a pronunciation of the composer Franz Schubert.

The artwork has been hanging on the rear facade of the Beatrix building, since October 2021. The perfect location for this neon rebus. The rebus is visible from this location to all train and bus passengers who travel via Utrecht Central Station, but also to pedestrians who walk past the station.
