SPICA
JUAN FUENTES
a star of light, sound and movement
When you stand directly in front of Spica, it feels as if you are witnessing the birth and disappearance of a star. Juan Fuentes creates a harmonious sequence of light, sound and movement that evokes this star’s life cycle: its birth, development and death. The light patterns shift, expand, fade and return, while light, motion and sound are fully synchronized to create an immersive experience. As if a star is breathing right before your eyes.

an endless miracle, revealing a new version of the same star each time
The shape of Spica, the classic eight-pointed star from astronomy, keeps reappearing. Sometimes you see it clearly: crisp, geometric and symmetrical. At other moments, everything breaks apart into different patterns. That constant motion is hypnotic, like watching an endless miracle that reveals a new version of the same star each time.
For centuries, the star Spica served as a celestial beacon for navigators and explorers, a point of light that offered direction, even when it lay far beyond reach. Here, that beacon takes on a new form: not as a fixed guide, but as a phenomenon that invites you to move with everything that changes.
Mirrors, mirages, miracles
In Spica’s continual transformations, you see something you can follow but never fully hold on to. In that sense, the installation reflects the illusion of a distant paradise, a horizon that draws us in and inspires us, even as its true nature remains hard to define. The star is near and far at once, always in motion, always just beyond a fixed form.
