Denkendes auge
Sínoca

a riot of colour on the Monument

In one of the darkest spots on the route, the façade of a monumental building from 1910 suddenly comes to life. Colours ripple across the surface, light moves with the architecture, and landscapes appear that almost feel like you are looking through someone else’s eyes. Denkendes Auge is a video mapping inspired by Goethe’s studies of light, darkness and colour, and especially his fascination with how we perceive them. It feels as if a soft mirage is drifting across the façade, a painting that keeps changing.

The images glide  across the monument
like a gentle mirage.

This work is all about how we see reality. Goethe did not consider colour to be purely scientific, but a personal experience that emerges through the interplay of light, darkness and feeling. Denkendes Auge shows how light and colour can mirror, distort and awaken our gaze. The images slide like a gentle mirage across the monument, accompanied by lines from Goethe’s writings, while the 1910 building itself, so distinctive and out of place in its surroundings, seems to surface from another time. Together they form a light, poetic illusion that makes you look differently at what is right in front of you.

Mirrors, mirages, miracles

In the end, Denkendes Auge invites you to pause on a simple but beautiful thought: everyone looks at the world in their own way, and tries to make sense of it in their own way. Goethe tried to explain the world through his personal theory of colour, and this mapping lets you experience that for yourself.
