Sunny Cloud

Utrecht Centraal

Sunny Cloud is a cloud with thousands of lights that hangs in the station hall of Utrecht Central (center side). The cloud is made of energy efficient LED lights, which are controlled by a computer program.

Artist John Körmeling designed this work of art during his participation in the design competition for a meeting point at the stations of the New Key Projects (NSP). This artwork can be seen at several stations in the Netherlands. For instance Rotterdam Centraal, Utrecht Centraal, Breda, Arnhem en Den Haag Centraal.

Sunny Cloud serves as a landmark for travellers to meet. It is located in front of the check-in gates at the train station. The light in the cloud reacts to the environment and the frequency of the flashing light is adjusted to local conditions.
