Onderdak

Smakkelaarsveld

The work consists of twelve large-scale projections. It is a selection of the many drawings made by teenagers living at the AZC (Asylum Seekers Centre) in Utrecht. They represent the view of ‘home’ by drawing their view from the inside out and from the outside in. A house, shelter, personal belongings, the kitchen, the launderette. The images together show what the Homecoming theme means to them.

“Homecoming means having a shelter, a safe place, surrounded by family and friends, or by new people who feel like family. But it also means the nostalgia for the deserted country, the thought of a difficult life in a war zone, or the beautiful mountains in home countries such as Eritrea, Syria, Kurdistan or Somalia.”

DUTCH

Stichting de Vrolijkheid is a network of professional artists, regulators, volunteers, children, young people and parents, who together realize more than 100 art projects at more than 25 azc’s every week. We also have a large location in Utrecht where we realize art projects for various target groups: children, teenagers and young people. We work with different art disciplines; such as dance, theatre, music, new media and visual arts. Thanks to the efforts of all workshop leaders, volunteers and creative residents, we can create beautiful moments through art.
