Photon

Stadskamer Hoog Catharijne

So far, science does not answer the question of what the elementary light particle looks like.

PHOTON visualizes the basic element of light through a geometric shape. The light art installation visualizes a fictitious, floating particle made of 60 textile-covered metal tubes.

The shape of a photon may be unknown, but what is known is that all the light you see comes from somewhere.

And the moment you see it, it finds its home. Just like the beautiful stars on a clear night, the light is always there. And all those photons or particles of light have traveled enormous distances, at the fastest speed we know. The enormous visualization of the light particle finds its home in the middle of Hoog Catharijne. And even though the Photon finds its home in Utrecht, light is in constant change. It is a work of art that also travels further.

“Although light has the same structure all over the word, the light of our homes means all of us a different and unique environment. We recognize the homelike light wherever we come home, the differences always made by photons.”
