Stairs Jaarbeursplein

An apparent tangle of gold-coloured strings swarms on the steps of Jaarbeursplein. On My Way is a 20-metre long work of art, consisting of gold-coloured sprayed and bent pieces of reinforcing steel. Lights that seem to chase each other move across the golden steel. It all seems to be the same movement in warm light, but each time slightly different. The movements represent the people who go home from the station every day.

It seems like one stream, but everyone goes their own way. This is characteristic of the station, but from the stairs on the Jaarbeursplein you look down and you see the streams of walking people and cyclists converge.

Did you also visit I Light U last year? Then you might recognize this artist duo from the artwork “Fluxit”. Fluxit (the fire) stood in the park behind the stairs and was one of the most photographed works of art. Paul and Sandra like to work with movements of light, so this year it is not the movements upwards, as was the case with Fluxit, but a completely different movement to far away.

“Here is the first question, where is home? Where are the people you love? What if your loved ones are suddenly no longer in the old familiar place, where is home? Are you at home in yourself? In that case you are always at home and therefore always on the go.”
