#Felicity

Bollendak

#FeliCity is an artwork that challenges the impact of social media on human interactions. Its main shape looks like a three dimensional hashtag, which arms are displaying scrolling words and short texts like social media snippets and popular hashtags. The artwork is a tensegrity; a structural balance of pressure and tension, symbolizing the delicate balance in society challenged by superfluous and inconsequential media bubbles.

The words and sentences on display are connected to the theme ‘Homecoming’ of I Light U. It’s goal is to (positively) influence spectators sentiment on a local level, using associations related to the theme and the location at Utrecht Centraal. The artwork can be seen as a physical form of placemaking with the help of social media. The content of the words and sentences, the ‘speakers’ on the artwork, are currently being assembled.

Many thanks go to Olav van Enkhuijzen, Bas Gremmen, Naomi de Bruijn & (more names may follow)

“”Coming home is a very powerful and personal emotion. Bubbles on social media have the power to replace our sense of belonging, which is both a blessing and a curse.””
